New crx, confusion
ok so i just picked up an 88 crx si, guy delivered it to me, mind body. dropped in the front, stock ride in the back..... needs exhuast work, slight misfire everyonce and a while.
heres whats up, test drove it, car was cake so i bought it. went to fill it up, pulled off and it started barreling smoke jalapy style. sweet smelling so i know its burning coolant. HG coulprate.... more than likely. opened the hood to get the block code bc he told me it had a diferent motor in it d15b1......but its got a different head on it.... wasnt all 88's DPFI? bc its got a MPFI intake on it and im pretty sure its an a6 head.
first off is this head even compatible with this bottom end? secondly what kinda solid gasket can i get for this thing i dont want one of those cardboard ones.
oh and hello im new here, not my first crx by a long shot always trolled the forums never registered. so HI ill be staying for a while

also, ecu which he said was from an ls is throwing code 43 and code 9, it needs exhuast so that would explain 43. could it be throwing out 9 bc it has an msd egnition system in it? the dizzy and the cylinder thing that runs a wire to the dizzy
told myself i would never buy another ef and look what happens when i do

is there a stamp on the head around the ports somewhere? under the valve cover? not really a d-series guy, just trying to help tho. the k-series have stamps for everything.

not all 88's are dpfi, the si did come mpfi.
dude probably spun a bearing with the old a6 engine. throw the head on a b1, with out matching the head gasket. probably used a a6 head gasket, when should have used a b1.

88 si should be mpfi. b1 and a6 heads are the same sans cam and valve springs. The gaskets are also the same. It sounds to me like a blown head gasket. Have the head checked and resurfaced if necessary. You could use a z6 or y8 MLS head gasket if you want.
