Default D4 Flashing on 96 Accord | How do I jump the service connector?

I've researched the subject before posting and there are many different answers I found.
The D4 just started flashing on my way home this morning. Car doesn't want to go to second gear, in first it goes fine then once it wants to go to second the speed just drops.
I think the tranny might have reached its time, but it may be something else.
Found a post about the paper clip method along with the image below, but none of the posts ever mentioned how to actually do this. Will it even work on my 96?

I made a thread about PO301 PO302 PO303 error codes a few days ago, could this be linked to that?

Took the car out for a 5min drive today. D4 light wasn't flashing, yesterday it was flashing when the car was overheating.
So can anyone help out with the service connector?

I believe on the 96's there is the blue connector under the glove box on the passenger side. pull the connector w/ 2 wires out, and jump it w/ a paper clip w/ the key to the on position, you will be able to pull the codes watch the D4 light for flashes. Or you can get an OBD2 reader and pull the codes. The port is located behind the ashtray.
