04 Acura RSX Type S, Jumped Timing?
I'm pretty sure I jumped timing. I started it a few days ago and i stalled it by accident, then everytime i started it, it would run at a really low idle for 5-10 seconds, then shut off. I considered a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay. I got it home and at that point it would only start if i sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body, so i figured no fuel was getting to the motor.
I replaced the relay, and I can hear the fuel pump priming when i turn the car on, and i pulled the fuel hose to the fuel rail and had someone start it, and fuel came out, so i know its getting fuel to the motor. I replaced the spark plugs (which were all bad) and now i can get it to start without the starting fluid, BUT, it still idles low and shuts off.
I have no check engine light on, but thats the only thing left. Its getting Fuel, Spark, and Air. The only other reason for the car not to run is if I jumped timing when I stalled it. At Acura they told me its common for RSX's to jump timing when being started or at low RPM's, especially if the timing chain and tensioneer have not been serviced and its past 100,000 miles, they could be loose.
It wont run for more than 10 seconds so Im assuming I jumped more than 1 tooth on the cams =/ I just need tips on loosening the tensioneer and lining the cams back up if anybody has done this before. I've done it on my 94 Integra before but the guys at Acura said K20's are alot more complicated. Thanks in advance

its a chain on the kseries motors. if it jumped, you have something else wrong. is it just idling too low to keep it running? what happens if you press the gas pedal down while its running?

I don't know your level of experience, but to check the timing is quite simple on the K series.
You have to pull the valve cover off and then line up the cams by turning the crank. You know the cams are lined up and cylinder 1 is at TDC when the flat cam marks are facing each other horizontally. Its hard to verbally explain this so if you want pictures let me know.
i have the same problem. my timming jumped a tooth. (when i line up my cams, the pully is off by 1/4 inch or so) it starts up for 4 sec, boggs, then dies. i was trying to swap my chian and tensioner but i couldnt take out the crank pully nut so im stuck.
(i tried breaker bar, 150lbs of torqe wrench, heating the nut, using a breaker bar and cranking the motor, soaking it up in lube, and i still cant get the nut off)

sounds like you jumped timing only problem is it should have thrown cel for a cam position sensor. I knew right away when mine jumped on my 03 rsx-s. I went out to start her up and right away it had a low idle and cel came on.
If that is what is wrong with it. I would replace the tensioner all the guides as well as the chain. I heard that chains will last lifetime of the car, but I noticed mine was streched when I got it off and I didnt want to take any chances. after I go it retimed and new parts on, reset ecu she ran like new.
