Default Transmission 'hesitating' at highway speeds

I haven't had to deal with allot of automatic tranny issues.

Got a yr older accord after my wife was hit and her 'newer' on totaled.

It is a 1994 Accord with the vtec motor. The motor is stupid solid. 180k and not a drop leaking from it. But ... I noticed a tranny issue while we were driving the highway.

Initially at 70mph it will be sitting steady at around 3,200rpms. Then, you feel a power lul almost, and the rpms will jump a bit(no more than a 100 or so rpms), then settle back down to the regular 2800odd rpms as it should be at.

I notice it more when there is a power draw on the tranny like a long gradual hill. It will pop up a hair in rpms then a second later settle back down. And there is definatly a slight loss of power.

I'm not sure if its solenoid related or what. That or I'll drain it and the pan will have a pile of metal in it :/

I'll mention this right now to, I havn't changed the fluids in the tranny, or checked it. I'm about to run to the auto parts store and get some tranny fluid and a crush washer. Think I'll throw in some valv. max life.

I've also read the 'filters' for these trannys are inside the transmission, and it requires some disasembly, on a scale of 'that guy can take apart most motors from sleds to cars and get them back together' how hard is that? I have never done much transmission work. Only the clutch on my integra. And easy to get at tranny filters 14yrs ago when i worked at xpress lube.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

edit* guy at carquest said it may be the over drive something or another going out. He looked up the filter also and it has a pan and filter. Got a new one w/gasket. Also I grabbed a lucas tranny fluid additive for slipping etc. Debating on putting it in. Not a fan of additives with the exception of sea foam.

Change the fluid, personally I would only use Honda Fluid (Z1 or DW1). Might have to do this a few times to get as much of the old fluid out as possible.

Check, clean the trans solenoids. Might as well do both.

Then check the throttle control cable for proper adjustment.
