Is touching a clutch with fingers bad?

Hey, since my clutch is starting to slip (31,000) I have been looking for new clutch kits. A friend of mine wants to sell me a Spoon clutch with clutch cover for $300 brand new, but when I was looking at it yesterday, I held it by the actual pad part of the clutch (the part that grabs). He then told me it was bad to touch it like that, because the oils come off on your fingers, and the grease from your fingers gets on the clutch.
Is this so? Is the clutch affected or can I still use it?
Is $300 a good price for a Spoon Sports clutch kit?
Thanks

Don't let him freak you out...just wipe it off with a rag.
I remember reading the Mercedes maintenance manual for my parents 1981 300 turbodiesel. The Germans were soooo **** retentive about maintenance -- they said to ONLY use a muslin or other NON-LINT producing cloth to wipe the dipstick when checking oil.
The theory was that if you used a paper towel, some lint might come off and contaminate the oil. Geez...how retarded is that? I'm amazed they didn't say not to drive in the sun because it fades the paint.

wipe it off with a rag, but dont use any cleaners what so ever, clutch disks are like sponges with stuff like that and they'll never stop slipping afterwards.

Just curious... But how is your clutch slipping already at 31k miles?
I hope mine doesn't suffer the same fate...
EpDarks- who is painfully awating that 30k mark.

Isn't the spoon clutch just a repackaged type r clutch. Therefor it will more than likely slip when any real horsepower is put on it?
