aftermarket parts really aren't bad as long as you get the quality ones, you guys know who makes most timing belts for honda? "Gates" O'reilly's carries gates so why not use it?
if you know the maker you can get it form them directly or from another source rather then paying markup just because they put it a HONDA sticker on it

True, but at least a "gates" belt is made to OEM specs when it gets a HONDA sticker on it.

Just because it is made by the same manufacturer doesn't mean it is exactly the same product.

For example, Honda uses gates belts on lots of motors but not on B-series...

lol you have much to learn, you think every part you buy from honda is made by American Honda manufactures?
They're many companies that make exact same replica parts and sell to honda dealerships for cheaper then what American Honda sells them for. Can you tell the differance between them? Looks the same, works the same, comes in a honda bag/box and part number on it. Only differance is the price that the dealership buys them for but you still pay the same retail.

Kinda f'ed up but it's all about making money

Knowledge owns you, you probably think MIL-Spec means a ton of what it doesn't. There's this amazing thing in the world...called PRIVATE LABEL MFG. Does HONDA make an oil pump, water pump, timing belt, ecu pin/receptacle, or bolt? NO. They are outsourced and purchased through various companies, generally landing contract with the supplier who can provide product at the lowest cost.

I am in no way saying an integral part from a Napa or Pep Boys is a better way to go than OEM, but get your **** straight before you start claiming a "Honda" sticker insinuates something special, to be honest with you, it doesn't.

OEM's manufacturer parts for Honda, to Honda spec

The only way you are going to get Honda spec is by buying OEM Honda.

I am not saying that OEM's don't sell the same ****, but the specs that Honda sets out for their own products vs. what's sold by the same OEM by 3rd party sellers is not guaranteed to be the same.

That's all I am saying.

Also - just because gates makes timing belts for D-series and other honda motors does not mean that they are exactly the same as B-series timing belts (that are made by a different manufacturer).

It's like saying non-honda coolant will do exactly the same job as oem honda coolant (even though honda doesn't MAKE the coolant, it's still made to Honda's specifications).

I'd use OEM. What is the price difference?
