Default h22 swap question(s)

hi all im new here and i have a few uneducated questions. first off i have a 92 si 4ws auto that has less then 100k miles on it. i know it would be just as cheap to buy a new used lude thats a manual with a h22 but im guessing that the price would be about the same and my car doesnt have any rust on it except for the sunroof. so i was thinking if i put a h22 with manual tranny into it what all do i need to convert over, like do i have to change the ecu with it, and what about the 4ws does that not work with it if so is it easy to take off? i also notice that on ebay some engines are for 92-95 and 93-96 and then theres just h22 with no year so do i need to know what h22 will fit for my car? i do know that i have to have a piece welded to the frame for the manual. i figured id buy a used h22 with tranny put in the engine now and when i find someone to weld the piece on correctly ill do the tranny swap then. also how hard is it to take out a engine and put in the new one is it something i can do if i have a engine lift? thanks for the help.

You should read through the FAQs section for the preludes. This project, right now, is probably too much for you to do alone.

so engine swap is something i possibly could do (with the use of a step by step book or checking the FAQs on here etc.) but save the tranny swap to a pro which is cool with me. so do i need to change the ecu or just leave it alone and is there a difference between a h22 with a black top or red top?

Don't waste all the extra money for a red top, just get a OBD1 black top and you'll need a P13 ecu to go with it. Also, for the love of all things sacred, keep 4ws, they are so rare.

^Wrong, the blue top is from the CH9 wagon and was japan only, ATR had the H22a7 which was similar to the euro r.

As far as stock color VC concerned here's a list I found at this link, no listing for blue tops unless I overlooked it so it may not be complete but nice info nonetheless:

Agreed about the 4WS, wish I had one but I got the 'other' prelude haha

But yeah, swaps are easy...just need to research and take your time. Plus it's good experience. Personally I'm trying to find out mechanically the diff between a red and black top, cause I'm negotiating buying what the seller swears is a red. I refuse to pay the extra for a fake.
