Final drive
the final drive is a multiplier for your gear ratios.
i am not exactly clear on your question. can you as a more specific question?
also the final drive is not calculated as it is a fixed value depending on the final drive gear ratio.

the final drive is the last gear (always connected to the output shaft). the bigger this gear is (larger number) enables greater low end acceleration but this hurts top end speed. The smaller this gear is, gives you less acceleration but more top end speed. same goes for individual gears. the trick is to find the (sweet spot) correct ratio so you don't smoke tires or ride the clutch. lots of math involved. and it get expensive quick to change to non-stock gearing.

there is a gear on the differential referred to as the final drive or the ring gear.
as for how many gears there are in the tranny, there is the mainshaft with gears 3-5 (?) and then you have the countershaft with gears 1-5. then you have the ring gear. so there are certainly alot of gears in the tranny...
