Transmission is toasted!
I was wondering would a a H23 or F22 auto tranny be a direct swap for the F23a4? I'm consider this because I hear a lot of ppl are having tranny with the F23 auto tranny, I personally had it overhaul once already when it was at 120k now its at 220k.
If the H23/F22 tranny is a direct swap is there anything internally different from the H23/F22 tranny design that is better than the F23a4 tranny because I only hear about the 6th gen having tranny issues.
Right now I'm considering buying a used H23/F22 tranny or overhauling the current tranny.

The F23A4 was used in the '98-'02 Accords, these transmissions are the problematic units and are not directly interchangeable with the earlier 90-93/94-97 units which use a cable. The newer transmissions use two additional solenoids and two oil pressure sensors, not found in the earlier models, and lack the downshift/control cable.
If it gets rebuilt, verify that the oil pressure switches and solenoids are replaced, some shops consider a rebuild of a AT just the replacement of the clutch packs. Also verify they are familiar with '98-'02 issues. I do not know if there is a shift improver or shift kit that's capable of fixing said problems. I've often wondered if it's a shift program issue.
My sister's 2001 accord also has the problematic transmission issue from Honda. Honda said they fixed the issue, but then it reared it's ugly head again and now is sitting in the driveway. She's debating whether or not it's worth it rebuilding the transmission or just getting rid of the car. Is your vin covered by the Honda transmission recall?
