Icon3 DUMB GAS GAUGE!

here is my story..

i was driving along, and my gas meeter starts to freak out.
it was going up, and down, and such, not it sits about.. 3/4 of a tank. and stopped.

well. i unplug it from the tank, and start it, thinking, sense the gauge is getting no power, it would fall to E.
nope.
it is staying at 3/4...
heres the kicker..
when im driving, sometimes it will start going up, and down.. but it will usually find its way back to 3/4..
what should i do?
what could it be?

i even tryed cleaning the ground for it, were, i found out, was all the way in the back of the car.
idk what eles to do.... some help would be MOST grateful. =]

thanks guys.

hows your dash wiring? the ground for the gauge cluster is part of the dash harness and bolts up next to the steering column bolts

I have the same problem, it usually always fines its way back to 3/4 even if its almost empty. If i drive a bit it goes right back up, as you described. Sorry to thread jack but I'm also interested in any input.
