Default 1998 Civic EX Hatch - Speaker Questions/Options

Don't want to sound like a super noob or anything but... Coming from my Volkswagen MK4 GTI Vr6, to my hatch... To say the least the sound system has been compromised.

I had the "monsoon" system in my gti and for a factory system it sounded effin great... Didn't go as loud as i would have liked, but it had a nice range of bass, treble, and mids.

I have an alpine head unit in my car (few years old, but it was baller when it was purchased... think it was like 350-400$)...

I went from hondas, to vw, and back to hondas... So this head unit has been in like the last 7 hondas i owned. I had Alpine Type S speakers in my integras all around, no amp, just the headunit...

It was quite loud, but it never had the low end bass... not even a little if i remember correctly.

My question is... I am in the market for speakers, and i still have my type s but i am going to have to buy a 6x9 for the rears since i have a hatch now.

What should i buy? (my options please...) I know the type S are old school now and there is probably so much new stuff out there.

Just give me your words of advice. I will take it as i do, and make the most logical decision from what is presented.

Also... I do have 1-2 amps laying around... nothing crazy. I would be willing to hook them up if needed for what i am looking for. From what i have read though, amping out the speakers along with head unit just makes the sound "too loud"... Like having tweeters on full blast.

i've had great experience with polk audio. just go to frys or best buy and listen to the speakers they have to get an idea of what you like. some speakers are louder then others, some have better bass, you gotta listen to it

--- I didn't really want to go out and do that because, in stores you know they have the speakers in boxes and are usually set up for optimal sound quality, not actual how it would be when in a car.

Not trying to be pissy or anything, but i am ignorant in the stereo dept. to a point and from what i read... Always want the RMS to be HALF of the MAX.

How would i know what speaker has better lows, and what speaker has better mids/highs?

If i do go out and buy a set from somewhere... what should i be looking for and basing my purchase off of?

Or should i just keep my alpine type s speakers?

Just want to be to the best of my knowledge for when i do make a purchase.
