how much hp ls rods can take?
i know this question has been asked before but i cant seem to find a def. answer. im building an lsv nothing crazy just p30 pistons stock head for now i want to know if i can use stock rods with arp 8mm bolts. just a fun car not a dd and want to rev around 8500 9. i no aftermarket rods are obviously better but i just dont have the money right now
Like anything else from the B-series family. About 300whp or so, with good tuning. you can always recon them (as long as they're in good order) to use for any NA setup
These are NEW rods, right? Not rods with 185,000 miles and a few million cycles, correct? Used parts last, well, as long as used parts. That is why I always buy used shocks, brakes and suspension parts.
Plus BHP does not have a lot to do with it, RPM and CYCLES do.

Power has plenty to do with it, because it is associated with heat and cylinder pressures. RPMs only has to do with the vibrations it encounters based upon the rod bolts themselves. Even without ARPs, those can take about 300-320whp before failure. BUT, the higher the rpm, the more iits best to change rod bolts in them. You can make 300whp without going 9000rpms.. but that's in Forced induction world.

Absolutely. Even with upgraded ARP rod bolts, people here in this forum such as D-Rob have experienced failures of the LS rods due to actual rod stretch (deforming at the big end) from lots of high RPM use. The stock LS rod bolts are the weakest links and then the rods themselves. I've never actually seen a rod deform from BHP, just from RPM or hydrolocking the engine by injesting water.
Is someone ELSE I know posting on this account?
