95 ls- no compression in 3 cylinders
i have a 1995 ls head and block, i bought being told they were in running condition. i put the head and block together. the block looks healthy no cracks on the walls or anything no funny noises, i put a new head gasket in . put the motor together everything torqued down to spec. dropped the motor in when i go to crank it , it doesn't want to start. compression test it... i got 30 in #4 and the rest were 0... tested them all 2x and got same results. ok so can anyone help me in how to find out if its my head or block...??? what should i look for? i never saw the motor running before so i dont know how it sounded or what color smoke or anything, what can i look for everything is all apart again... any help???
Its kinda hard to tell you what direction to go with this, maybe that is why no1 has answered. Your best bet is to just take it to a machine shop and have them see whats wrong with it. They should be able to tell you EXACTLY whats up with it.
even if timing was off you would still get a compression reading there are probably small cracks that you can not see with your eyes you are gonna need to get it magnafluxed at a machine shop to actually see the cracks or maybe valves seats are shot causing it not to hold compression, or condition of rings if you didnt check them

Do a leak down test it will tell you where the cylinders are leaking to.
Have you done a valve adjustment, what is the lash, could be the valves are staying open a little. 94
