I have a poor mans type r motor. Jdm gsr block and b16 head. When I floor it the rpms go up but it won't rev past the point vtec engages. vtec hits then its like theres a rev Limiter. Any ideas what it could be? IT only does it in gear when I floor it. Fluid levels are.good and the motor is warmed up. Any ideas will help. Thanks. The car runs fine besides this problem

 

does check light goes up when the limiter hits?

 

It doesn't t have a limiter. and no check engine lights when this happens.

 

Oh yeah my vtec hits at 6k. the only time I can take my car past 6 is when I'm almost out of gas cus the vtec won't hit

 

get a multi meter and test ur tps sensor. should read 5.0
happen to my non vtech n wouldnt go past 4k n bogged out weird ... idk if that tha same problem but maybe,,

Somebody told me its bad spark plugs. But if the plugs are bad shouldn't it run bad throughout the whole rpm range. Mine runs fine. I disconnected my vtec and it ran fine all the way to 8k but cel came on so I reconnected it. Still stops right at vtec.

 

could be the solenoid. have you checked for codes? i would disconnect the battery ground to clear the codes. drive it for a day or so, then check codes

 

i highly doubt it will read 5.0 more like 4.5 or so. some systems when they see 0 or 5.0 they throw the code for outside limits, idk if tegs will. Just ign off sweep the throttle and check results

 

if it was the solenoid the vtec wouldt even crack right? vtec cracks. the solenoid should be fine...

 

I had this problem with my jdm gsr....it wouldnt let me rev higher then 3500k....I was running a chipped p28, put in my virgin p28 and it ran fine....maybe try that...

 

i would check your ecu, try to re burn the tune. I had the same problem with my old built type r, after re burning it did fine. Or maybe i just got lucky.

 

i tried a few different ecus....i just re chipped mine...still the same problem...im stumped

 

I just tried my friends stock gsr ecu and a jun ecu...still the same problem

Are u using a usdm ecu ? Sounds like the knock sensor cutting fuel. ? Correct me if I'm wrong

 

i would like to rephrase my last post it should read 5.0 when you hold the throotle all the way open..

im using a p28 ecu...when i got it re chipped i deleated the o2 sensor knock sensor and some other things...its not the ecu...i tried stock ecus and a bunch of different chipped ecus....

I'd check the distributor. Sounds like a weak coil. It has enough to start your car but not enough to rev high.

 

try a diffrent dist. and also take out the vtec solinoid and clean it out and replace the vtec solinoid screens it might be dirty. My ITR hits vtec at 6k also so thats not the problem for you, are you sure your oil level is good, keep it at the top hole on the dip stick not the middle so you have a good amount of oil. maybe your oil pump may be failing but iv never heard it to go bad and cause no vtec.

 

My distributer is fine..when I disconnect the vtec I can rev high all I want...the vtec solenoid is fine its clean and the screen is not clogged...and the oil level is fine too

 

i believe its the vtec solinoid did you try another one yet?

 

i talked to a lot of people and they said the vtec solenoid should be fine...cus the vtec actually cracks before the rpms stop...and the check engine light should come on if its not working properly

 

maybe you have a locked Vtec Cam rocker lob preventing the Vtec lobs to kick in
