Bad Pulley?
need a lil help i have an 02 civic dx when i start the engine (cold) after a few seconds the engine will sequel if i rev up the motor for a few seconds it will go away. when i turn the fan motor on it also sequels really loudly turn the fan motor off the sequel goes away. not to sure of the problem but i have reason to believe that it could be the alternator i was jumping off someone the other day and when i connected the jumper cables to my battery the engine sequel like crazy removed the cables and the sequeling went away. Any help would be appreciated this nose is driving me crazy.
^just to add to that, to tighten the alternator belt pop your hood and on the drivers side of the engine you'll see a wing nut that's easy to access and adjusts the ps belt, below that is a second wing nut that's in a more difficult spot and adjusts the alternator belt. Tighten it just enough that the squeaking goes away, overtightening will damage the pulley bearings.
It is absolutely worn/stretched ALT belt.It is kinda common. You need to inspect belt first. If you see cracks, need new one. If not, you can adjust yourself.
Here is some tips.
Tools you need.
-10mm socket(deep 3/8")
-12mm 1/4" shallow socket
-pliers(to adjust wing nut or 21" 3/8" shallow socket with cut slot to be fit on wing nut)
-1/4" & 3/8" hand ratchet.
-12mm deep socket(3/8")
-14mm shallow 3/8" socket
-6" 3/8" extension(wobble extension is better)
-small flat screw.
First, Remove 2 10mm head bolt at bracket (besides P/S pump). Loosen 12mm head of top P/s bolt. Loosen 12mm bottom bolt with 1/4" ratchet and 1/4" socket.
Turn wing nut of P/S adjuster. Once belt removed, remove all 12mm bolt. Put aside P/S pump with reservoir(just pull reservoir by hand from bracket).
Now loosen 14mm top ALT bolt2-3 turns. Turn steering all the way to left.
You will see black plastic clips at LF fender. remove it(it is very easy to be broken).
Put away, then you will see 12mm ALT belt adjuster. Loosen 3-4 turn with extension and 3/8" ratchet.
Now tighten wing nut of ALT adjuster(it may seized, use WD40-make soaked for 3 min).
How tight? If you can twist ALT belt 90 degree most, it is enough.(Do not worry. It won't damage ALT bearing).
Little hard? Any more question? let me know
