Rim Paint Project for Integra
Hey guys!
This would be my first time painting anything, so hopefully it turns out okay.
I've already completed sanding, which took well over two weeks, so I have been too busy to post until now. (And I didn't want to post just incase I made a colossal mistake that would compromise the whole project)
The test subject is a set of OEM CRX rims 5-J X 14 40 and they will be going on a 1990 Integra GS.
Here is my equipment for sanding:
1 Orbital Sander
10 180 Grit Sanding Discs
5 220 Grit
1 Pair of Gloves
5 Dust Masks
1 Pair of Goggles
Assorted sanding blocks and papers (120 grit - 320 grit)
and
1 Hell of a tired arm
I decided to take it to bare metal because going to primer seemed like half arsing it a little (Not that keeping the tires on the rim isn't).
I used sanding blocks to get into the deep groves along the lip.
A sanding sponge got me through the deep crevace between the lip and the flat area, though it was pretty impossible to get to bare metal due to the inability to provide any aequate pressure on the surface.
The end result turned out pretty good. A final go over with the (500? grit) sponge smoothed everything out nicely.
Painting is underway, so I will keep posted.

I have prepped all the wheels now, and primer is complete.
I taped off the entire tyre with newspaper, washed the surface thouroughly with water and soap, and let dry.
I did about 4 layers of primer(one over the other without any sanding) and got some macro shots to show the layering and texture.
My supplies are:
2 Duplicolour filler primer (1.25 cans actually used)
3 Cans of Duplicolour Wimbledon White

The wheels are painted and came out great.
In all, I used:
2 cans Duplicolour Filler Primer
3 cans Duplicolour Wimbledon White
2 cans Duplicolour clearcoat
7 cans 2 $12.99 = $90.93
Red Honda centercap outline was done in Sharpie.
Only thing I recommend is to remove tyres when painting.
Here's a pic.

Man those are some funky old school rims. Not really my taste but you did a good job of painting them.
I did something similar to my blades. I just sanded them down then keep them waxed. They look good.
