08 CBR600RR, Fork Snap Ring?
Scenario: I just ordered and had installed the lowering link for my 2008 CBR600RR. While there, I asked the tech to drop my front forks an inch so the bike was not lowriding on the rear wheel and high on the front. He comes back with the owner approx 45 minutes later and tells me that there is a snap ring on the forks that does not allow them to be lowered the way you could do before. Neither of them could tell me the purpose of this snap ring, but did not want to perform the lowering of the front forks because Honda put it there, therefore it must be an engineering issue that needed to be addressed.
I have done some searching, and the only post I could find (and I found it here on this site) referred to the ring as a guide reference (and sort of stop) for the bars, so that they would never go below a certain point.
I am hopeful that someone here can speak from an engineering standpoint and has some experience with this snap ring and can tell me if it is safe to drop the bike this way. I really dont want to have to shell out the $$ to replace the springs and do it that way... any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Set the preload at the lowest setting, that will drop it some.
If the ring is for the clip-ons, that shouldn't be a big deal.
Have you visited 600rr.net yet?
I'm not a big believer in lowering bikes, and would never advise it. I know some guys like to raise the rear (i.e. RC51 Moriwaki links), or lower the front a little (10mm), for turn-ins.
