Default gsr b18c1 smoke question

ok here's the full story. I have a ek hatch with a b18c1 in it. since i got the car its been Smelling like oil here and there but it didnt burn any. And The car NEVER warmed up it only would if i sat still for long time and it barely got to operating temp. So today i decide to replace thermostat . i found it stuck open. Now it got to full temp. I decided to take it for a good highway drag to see if temp went down. Temp stayed the same. But for the first time ever when i downshifted a huge puff of smoke came out and it threw me back. I never felt vtec until now. Did the thermostat stop vtec from engaging? And why the smoke? After the first time i tried few others and no smoke at all that i could tell

If you have never felt vtec before that then thats good that you do now. from my understanding the vtec valve must have been stuck and finally came loose. the stat could have something to do with it not engaging because the car was not able to get to full temp. how r things currently, better?

well its midnight here lol so i did it in the dark. It was holding temp very well didnt over heat and temp didnt drop right away. It seems to idle little lower then before. And i cant see no smoke. it was just that one time. I mean its dark but cars behind me i was dropping it to 4th doing 60mph and didnt see smoke other then the first time. It feels like it has more power.

The lower idle is because its now up to temp.
