89 Honda Civic speedometer went out and check engine light came on in the same day, i checked the code and it was code 17 what do i have to do and is that he reason my speedometer went out???? please help

 

the code is set because your spedo is not reading,and thats causing your ecu to have a set fuel map for all the gears because it doesnt know what speed its at. so your probably felling sluggish.any way check the back of your cluster to see if it sliped out a lil(just push it all the way in to be sure) then check where the cable goes into the tranny(pushin to be sure)..or pull the cable out and visualy inspect it to see if its broken or you might be missin clips,and while you have it out of the sleave grease it up.if its broken replace

hey i need help i got a 89 si tranny but cant get the driver side diameter rite all the ones i buy its to small and not big enough and the spline is 26

fly what do u mean... the axle size or what?
did u pull it all the way out of its sleave and did it click when you pushed it back in after pulling it out

 

Sounds like the cable is bad. Mine looked fine when i took it out but i replaced it and everything was A ok afterwords.
