Putting A/C back into 92 civic. Is a lightweight underdrive crank pulley helpful?
vehicle:
92 civic hatch
motor- completely stock JDM d15B basically a d16z6 for those who arent too familiar with the jdm d15b.
Out here in Vegas its hot as hell in the summers and im sick of living the summers without a/c in my car. I bought my car completely stock with the us stock d15b7 and it came with a/c but the car lagged so badly it was almost impossible to drive. I would have to floor it everywhere to get up to speed.
Now i have a jdm D15b vtec with more power and since i was offered the a/c setup for so cheap i thought i would put it in hoping it wont lag as bad. A friend of mine told me about getting an aluminum light weight underdrive crank pulley to make the components not lag the motor as much. Does anyone know if this is a very helpful item with a/c? i do not have power steering so it would only be the alternator and a/c compressor running off the pulley.
I remember back when my car was garaged with the a/c i originally had it would work pretty good because my car wasnt sitting in the heat. But when i would go to the mall or school for a few hours and come back to my car thats been out in the sun it would take forever for the a/c to get cold and the car was insanely annoying to drive.
if thats how you guys predict it is going to be for me id rather not get the a/c
thanks for any input!

Still 1.5 liter, so it won't have that much more torque. Or course you could just turn it off if you have to get around quicker. Your D15B7 may have been worn out or not running right.
An underdrive pulley may run the alternator and AC compressor slower, but then maybe if the compressor isn't being driven at full speed, it may not work perfectly.
And your AC could have been faulty before, and unless you install it perfectly, it may not work perfect now.
My old Civic LX (d15b7) had working AC and it worked fine and got around ok. I thought it was actually a pretty good motor it had. It wasn't fast, but if I revved it up, it did ok. If you have the VTi transmission that came with the D15B, then it shouldn't be a problem at all. It should be just like a EX or Si, and they are kind of fun.
I think if you do it right, the AC could work well and the car will still get around decent.
