Default Honda dealer put GM GL-4 gear oil in diff and said its ok

The manual says to use GL-5 or 6. Called dealer and they assumed me that GL-4 is just as good and they are not willing to change it.....

Need advice

More importantly you need to find out if the gear lube they put in it is the same one they put into CRVs. Early on some Honda dealers did this and caused a few diffs to fail. There is a service bulletin out for this exact issue. You can do a search for it the TSB # is 011001, basically it tells the dealer not to put in the stuff they use for CRVs. And that the correct type of fluid can be obtained from a Honda motorcycle dealership if need be.

If they aren't willing to tell you if it is the same stuff they use for CRVs and not willing to follow the TSB, then you will have to change it again yourself. This is one thing that you probably don't want to chance, since diff damage can occur from the use of the wrong type of fluid.

had more active discussion on this in another forum, but basically HoA didnt help, dealer refused to help, and they used GM GL-4 axle fluid (not CRV stuff). Changed to M1 75w90 GL-5 myself today. Maybe will sue the dealer for not following Honda's manual. This is just ridiculous.......

You should have gotten all of that on paper.

If they claim it's just as good, then let them back it up in writing. That way if you had some problems thereafter, you had proof that they didn't follow the TSB. Your lawsuit may go a bit better too.
