Default ZC intermediate shaft with non IS block

For Pinks All Out this past November that My crx was entered in I was using a a non intermediate shaft D16Y8 block. I ran into a small problem. I wanted to keep my ZC Hydro trans and intermediate shaft. With this set up Ive been able to run consistently with no torque steer and No LSD on autozone reman axles for over 200 track passes.

There are several different types of intermediate shaft adapters available for different applications, suck as H2B, D2B... and so on. I haven't been able to find one available for my application. So I made one.

ZC Intermediate shaft using any cable or hydro D-series transmission with ZC or ZC sized differential to NON Intermediate shaft D series block

The intermediate shaft used here is from an early ZC female IS.

So now those who had a ZC trans and or have run into this problem before can possibly benefit.

I am currently tested this app on an EK (d16y8 non IS block) with a custom passenger side axle. We've put over 5000 daily miles so far with no problems. This car is slammed too. No axles bind and No torque steer.

This EK is currently using the same type of intermediate shaft and DA driver side axle.

I have sourced two later style Male ZC IS's and will be testing those as well. In theory 94 up driver side axles should be the same length and work. If my measurements are correct 19 7/16in bearing to bearing.

Nice, will you be selling the adapter plate? I have a cable DOHC ZC trans for sale and might have to send someone your way if it wont work on their block.

This block here is a mock motor (d15b7) block castings between 88-00 non intermediate shaft d15/16 nonvtec/vtec will all work with this ZC intermediate shaft adapter. No block fabrication needed. Only part needed is a longer alternator belt. size depends on type of crank pulley and alternator that is being used. The adapter pushes the alternator bracket out 1 3/16 in. Adapter bolt to existing factory pre tapped holes. Oil filter and all sensors are easily serviceable

This is where the factory exhaust hanger was once used and can be reused if desired

Ok first attempt I guess... It is way over "engineered" in my opinion. Also, I am sure pushing the alternator back another inch or so would pose as a problem for 88-91' owners. Have you tested it in anything other than a 96-00'? The oil filter also looks like a pain to get off as well (unless you have midget hands I guess). The welder needs practice too... All in all OK attempt, but a simpler design would yield much better results in my perspective.

^^^^HAHA "Welder needs practice" Ill make sure to let him know! (seriously)

Yes actually I have tested it on another chassis other then 96-00.

This was the car it was intended for and used:

Built for my 91 CRX HF!

Over engineered? Perhaps

Oil filter hard to get to? Perhaps

I like the Idea! Maybe design it so that the oil filter isnt a PITA to access but otherwise great design!

understandable. How ever given the amount of room to work with engineering can go only so far. The filter can be easily accessed using proper tools or anyones right hand, In the picture above I show how much space for the hand there is.

small example:

I see nothing wrong with the design. yes it pushes the alternator back some but so does the B series in the EF. I also do not see much of an issue getting to the oil filter.

I still have not sold my trans, when I get around to it I might get in touch with you.
