Default $700 show-quality paint job..... (56Ker's sorry)

Well... that was my friend's price (my price is less ) but just to show a few picts of how the car looked, and how it looks now. Basically, it's 4 coats of DuPont base coat (stock Milano red) and 4 coats of clear. Looks like glass and a deep red... very clean IMO with no orange peal anywhere on the car. I stood there taking picts throughout the entire process.... took him 2.5 hours to paint the car, then color-sanded it the next day and buffed it and waxed it. For a similar paint job, the guy usually charges $1000-$1500, depending on the car but hooked it up for my friend since they're working out a trade on something else.

Tomorrow morning, the H22 hatch goes in to get repainted BMW Sterling Silver Pearl (the metallic gunmetal color).

Cause the car was already red, stock R-81 Milano red, so we just did the outside (matches the jams already - it wasn't a full color change, otherwise the jams would've been done).

BTW, DuPont paint is expensive.... a gallon of Milano Red is around $440/gal to the public.... half that if you work at a shop... crazy

It was waxed right after paint job? Not a very good idea, that seals in the paint vapors that need to dry upto 3 months.

Anyway, !

Looks good, I hope the owner of the car knows how to properly care for the paint or else it will go to sh*t after awhile. But yeah, I hope you didn't really mean that he waxed the car when you said he waxed the car, the paint vapors need to evaporate for atleast 30 days...if you wax before then there could be some type of chemical reaction that makes the paint bubble up like it has blisters......

I asked him about that - he said that line is complete BS..... and when it comes to painting cars, I trust him since he's being doing this for over 10 years now, and does a lot of show cars for the body shop that he works for (he does these as a side job). Only gotta let the clear cure overnight (12 hours) and then you can buff it out and put clear on it. Same goes for driving it at night and getting bugs on the front of the car. No, it won't put any indentations in the paint/clear.... just wash it off when you're done driving at night. But he did say to clean off bird **** asap because of the acid in it likes to eat right through any paint job.

Heh... no my car, but a friend of mine. He has like 3 other cars that's going to be painted by the same guy... just wanted to see how the first turned out. Next in line is his H22 EK hatch, then 2.0L stroker LS/VTEC CRX w/SiR front end and molded Mugen body kit (I'll have picts of both of those as well when they get painted).

For the person who asked where this was, no it's not in So Cal, but in Northern California, north of Sacramento.
