My fan doesnt turn on and my car over heats. To give u a better idea of what might be the problem I have done the following to see whats the problem.

1. I checked the cooling fan fuse and its good

2. checked the relay by swithcing it out with a similar relay and the relay is good

3. I ran a direct power current to the fan switch on the thermostat housing and the fan turns on. So the switch is good

4. I replaced the switch either way just in case but the fan still didnt turn on.

5. Replaced the water temp. sensor which i was told has nothing to do with the fan.


I am lost as to why my fan doesnt turn on. Its a 1996 civic ex. ANy help please???

 

Had the same problem in my 92 hatch, I couldn't figure it out so I ended up wiring the fan to a switch.

 

My fan motor just went out on my 95 hatch, try getting a new motor

 

well i filled it with coolant cuz i was crazy low but now it doesnt heat up past the normal. so im womdering if/when it gets hot will the fan turn on?

 

did you jump the fan switch connector and the fans turned on? That means your fan switch is bad. I had a problem where sometimes my fans wouldn't turn on, just swapped out a fan switch still didn't turn, swapped the original one back in, turned on. I know not really a solution, but its been fine ever since.

 

Don't do this! Trace the damn problem and fix it right.

 

what temp switch did you replace it with? because aftermarket switches may not turn the fans on until it reaches a higher temp

 

the switch i used is rated at 180 degrees. oem is rated at this temp.


i ran a direct power to the connector and they did turn on. but i replaced the switch and they still dont turn on.



only other solution is my thermostat? supposedly if hot water isnt traveling to the sensor, it wont kick the switch of the fans??

 

While your car is running does you heater blow out hot air inside the car?

 

Did you test the actual fan motor? Go to the fan and unplug the connector, jump it tto the battery and see if it turns on then, if not then your fan motor is bad

Thermostat isn't opening to allow hot coolant from engine into your heater core is what that sounds like.
