why did no cat just finally trip CEL?
The previous owner of my civic took the cat out. the o2 sensor was just zip tied to the heat shield. I couldn't believe it but there was no check engine light on. I plan on eventually putting a cat back in when the funds allow. Anyways, for some reason the check engine light never came on until last night. I've been driving it for about 3 weeks. its code 63. 02 sensor. Why was there such a delay? and is there anyway to get it to turn off so I can get an inspection sticker or I have to wait til I get a catalytic converter?
What year is the car? Is it the o2 sensor before or after the cat? As for the inspection if they do a visual and an emissions test like in NY you automatically fail the visual for not having a cat. If they only do a dyno style or idle style emissions test the car will probably still fail since the emissions levels will be wrong cuz you don't have a cat. Sounds like you wither need to get a cat before the inspection or you need to get an illegal inspection. You can prob just clear the code and the cel will turn off. My car doesn't even have a secondary o2 sensor, I cleared the code when it came on prob 1000 miles ago and it hasn't come back yet.
its a 96. the o2 sensor goes in the cat I believe, but yea, its the second one. I think around here, in MA, as long as you don't have a check engine light on, you only need to pass saftey. I doubt they look for a cat. Would pulling the fuse for the ecu clear the code?
