Specs:
94 Civic DX
d16z6 motor
p28 ECU
so i recently installed a d16z6 motor in my 94 DX. And i wanted to test it's power. So i pushed it and when it hits 5k rpm, car seems to not make anymore power. It sounds and feels like as if i redlined to the max. Anyone know the problem??

im having same problem with my dohc zc in an 94 ex... i guess you can check all what i have and maybe you'll be lucky... fuel filter, fuel pump strainer, icm, spark plugs and wires, cap rotor, different distributor, adjusted timing, tried new ecu, injectors, engine harness, throttle body... so i guess you could try one of those and hope for the best... it may be wiring internally too... because mine was like that on the previous motor also. i'll let you know if i try other things...

reading comprehension got the best of me
but still would like to know if it has an check engine lights? Have you done any maintenance: plugs, wires, timing belt, etc?

yes vtec is wired up
it feels like its hitting a rev limiter.
correct
no engine lights. did plugs, wires. no timing belt yet
I kinda came to a conclusion that maybe my cluster isnt reading correctly? lmao. i ripped it recently it got up to about 6.4k. before it stopped at 5k. what's the redline on z6s anyways?

Redline for a Z6 is 7200 RPM, although with a stock cluster with horribly inaccurate tach they'll normally hit around 7800 before you hit the rev limiter.
It really seems like Vtec isn't working to me just based on where it's falling flat on it's face at 5 grand, I'd take the vtec solenoid apart and make sure the screen is clean and the plunger moves freely, sometimes the plunger sticks from old burnt oil and wont throw a code.
