Default how to properly check auto-tranny fluid level?

I think this question is probably geared toward anyone who's worked on an 84 or 85 year civic only.. the later models used a regular push-in dipstick.

When checking my automatic transmission fluid level, do I just dip the stick in? or do I screw it all the way down?

There is like an inch worth of thread, and only about half an inch of space between the 2 dots on the dipstick that the level is supposed to be between... so its a fairly significant difference.

I would guess its mark is correct when its all the way screwed down.

No one I've talked to is 100% sure... but just like you said, screwing it down seems to be the general consensus with everyone, so I'll go with that. I hate how paranoid I am about my transmission.

Thanks.
