stripped out valve cover bolt threads

Default stripped out valve cover bolt threads

so i just did a tune up and i noticed that the center valve cover bolt had a lot of dirty oil on it and around it so i removed the bolt to inspect it and there was shavings still in the thread at the top of the thread anyone know of a way to repair the thread or a bigger valve cover bolt to thread in after i tap the threads bigger

All the bolts do is hold the valve cover on. Retap the hole, plug the hole, whatever you want.

You can purchase a Helicoil kit. It includes a tap, and thread inserts along with another tool to place inserts into the piece you are working with. M6X1 is the size you will need for the valve cover bolts. The kit has instructions too.
The valve cover bolts often have a shoulder, that bottom out on cylinder head, just before the threads start. Be careful not to over tighten the bolts when you reinstall.

^ Indeed. They only require about 7ft-lbs of torque ... almost finger tight!
