Icon2 CRX with ls vtec wont rev past 3000 rpm

ok before everyone flames me about the search bar i have spent over 2 hours searching on honda-tech as well as several other forums and have not found the same scenario as me.

anyways, i just got my rex started today with my new fully built all motor ls vtec and took it for a spin to break it in and found out that mycar wont rev past 3000 rpms. the idle is stable. the ecu im using is a xenocron chipped pr3 ecu. the check engine light is on. i took the kick plate off and looked to see what code its showing and the light is not blinking at all. i checked to make sure the TPS and the MAP plugs are not switched. i just cant figure out how to find out what the problem is without my ecu light not blinking codes.

Sounds like you are in limp mode. Maybe your ecu LED is bad if the light is not blinking? I would double check all your connections if you cant see the codes

Reset the ecu and check the ECU fuse under the hood

If you sent in the ECU to have us chip it...send me an email and we'll get you sorted

This actually has been covered a bunch... I know I have many times. Do you have a chipped ECU as well?

Simple test. If it's a chipped PR3 that's throwing a solid CEL and won't rev over 3k, plug in the stock ECU (assuming DPFI) and fire it up, it will most likely run like poo, but it should not throw a CEL and should allow you to rev over 3k (at idle, no need to go driving).

Solid CEL means the chip is bad, the ECU is bad, or the chip isn't getting a good connection or has an intermittent connection to the ECU, or your wiring is bad. You shouldn't even need to start the car to test this. If it's a solid CEL it will not rev over 3k regardless.

^^^ While this is true it isn't 100% definitive. There can be more problems than just that to cause a Solid CEL. I dug up the post that has multiple explanations of this (see the links I posted within the thread).

Yup. 99% of solid CEL problems can be eliminated in testing by simply plugging in a known-good ECU.

just got done doing my ls vtec swap no leaks… could possibly be a vacuum leak I have not checked that yet but from where exactly do I check? . Checked the timing twice and ignition timing also. My vtec solenoid is not hooked up and won’t go past somewhere around 3000 rpm so I know why that’s happening…but would it also affect it stalling? Cool start is fine but when it warms up and drive I come to a complete stop and dies out… other information is that when it’s idling it sits just fine without stalling. When rev it up and let go sometimes it’ll stall and sometimes it won’t?
