Default  How does vibration effect horsepower?

I Have a few questions, just random shots in the dark at knowledge, that i would also like to collect and have for everyone on certain topics.

Question.
1. On what scale does vibration effect hp lose, say its at 80% of of perfect, what percent would that be close to if any?

2. How do minimize vibration, would certain parts be used over others
with a low vibration build.

3. By damping the engines vibrations wouldn't that effect its life, with more wear/friction on parts like the valve seats, cam journals, main bearings, bearings

Thank you.

Are you talking about vibration differences between different hardness mounts?

no, the entire aspect of engine vibrations, from connecting rods, to counterweights, mount also play a factor

now i may be wrong but vibration inside the motor is horrible thing for the parts.... as far as the hardness of mounts im not sure but it would seem logical that the chassis takes in the vibration and disperses it through the tires...

im kinda curious if there is some science behind what you are asking...

Based on that, I would research things like component balancing (crank specifically), harmonic balancers, and the effects of balance shafts. I think anyone will tell you that vibration is bad, but more on component lifespan than on power. Yes, you will probably gain some power as you decrease vibration as you will lose less to friction and heat. I know your question is how much, but I don't know that anyone could definitely answer that, other than probably 'not much'. Motor mounts will have an effect of the entire engine's vibration on the chassis, but I don't think increasing or decreasing the mount stiffness (or things like torque dampers) would have much effect on engine internal vibrations or crank horsepower. The claim on those items is usually supposedly increased wheel horsepower due to less loss between the engine and the road.
