93 integra wont start. PLEASE HELP!
so i bought a 93 DA a couple months ago in really nice shape the timing slipped and i had to do a complete new head, timing belt, waterpump, and the works. i had it running nicely for about a week and then one day i shut it off and it now it wont turn back on. i turn the key and nothing happens but all the lights are bright and the radio comes on and all. but theres nothing. i can hear the fuel pump cycling and the connections for the battery are all tight so im thinking its maybe the ignition switch.. has anyone else had this problem? i wanna fix this asap so i can bring it to a honda show coming up in mid may so pleasee help me, thanks
Honda show coming up? Theres one coming the same month here in my place but the beginning of may. Back to your question, my ignition switch is also messed up. Do the lights on your gauges come on when you put it on acc or does it only come on when you move it a little bit more after acc? When you start it and it shuts off as soon as you let go of the key, that could be it.
Here's a vid of what i found and this is exactly what my car does.

is the car cranking? ensure that the timing belt did not break.
if so look for spark at the spark plug, you can either use a spark tester or use a long screw driver stick it in the plug and then set it close to somewhere on the motor to see if there is spark
if there is spark ensure that there is fuel pressure
no spark then diagnose why there is no spark any help needed ask it. but you should be more specific when it comes to that.

When you say dash light up but nothing happens I'm assuming you mean the engine dosnt crank.
If so first thing I would do is make sure the bat cable to the starter is tight and clean and there is 12v to the starter. Next have someone turn the key to crank while you test the signal wire at the starter. Make sure it is good and tight and clean. If you have good voltage on the signal and main cable from the bat check the ground from your trans to the chassie. Take it off sand down the ground itself and where it makes contact with the body. Do the same for the bat negative also.

thanks for the responses. i shoulda been more specific, it does NOT crank at all it used to then one day i shut it off then it stopped. ive checked the tranny grounds, starter ground and all the timing belt is not broken it was just replaced actually but i pulled the valve cover to make sure that its not. if i roll start it it does fire up
check the little grommet on your clutch switche, happend to me awhile back and i thought it was my ignition switch also, but it was just a little grommet that hits the clutch switch under your dash, its only a weak rubber piece that often could break hope this helps

i think its number 22 or around that area, but try holding in the button on number 18 and start it and see what happens hope this helps
yeah i had the EXACT same problem as you did, and it ended up being the grommet, just follow your clutch pedal up, it should be two of them i think, its not the lower one, but the upper one is the one you gotta hold down and start the car
Will it crank with a bypass jump?
Unplug the starter lead at starter motor, use a jumper to jump from batt. or batt. cable on starter motor to the starter signal terminal on the starter motor, BE CAREFULL make sure car is not in gear, engine will crank even if car is in gear, ign. is not on or clutch is not stepped on.
If engine cranks with the bypass jump, the problem is eithe the ign. switch, [a common problem] or as mentioned, the CIS stopper "grommet", [an even more common problem] the CIS itself or the starter relay, [much less common problems]. 94

well it was rainy as hell today and i forgot which petal i was supposed to follow but i assumed it was the clutch petal so ill check tomorrow cuz it will be sunny. so i need to hold the gromit? or just press it?
and i havent tried a bypass jump but i assume it would start because it starts when i push start it

You do not push or hold the "grommet", you look to see if it is missing, in fact it is not a grommet it is more of a dummy plug, it is the CIS, [Clutch Interlock Switch] pin stop, it is a plastic plug in a hole in a metal bracket the the pin of the CIS presses against to push the pin in, if it is not there the pin does not get pressed, so CIS does not close and starter relay will not work.
Just because the car can be bump started, "push started" does not mean a bypass jump will work, a bypass jump determins if the starter or starter solenoid is the problem or if the problem is one of the things you bypass, [ign. switch, starter relay, CIS or the wiring.
There is not much point in looking for the CIS "grommet" if a bypass jump does not work. 94

you hold the "button" on the clutch interlock switch and try to start your car with the key,
cause 9/10 if you havent ever seen those grommets then you wouldnt know what it looks like. but there will be a hole that the button on the switch goes through and you get the idea

foundd it.and...still nothing..now what? i guess i could try to cut into the starter solinoid wire and put in a switch to see if its that..any other ideas?
try to unplug the clutch interlock switch and start it then, if not, maybe you need a new battery or starter? try to bypass jump the starter with a postive wire into the negative wire
i didnt try a by pass jump, but im assuming it would start..it will roll start so what would a bypass jump tell me? and ill try unplugging the switch..i heard sometimes they need to be replaced as well
by push starting, you're bypassing the starting system completely.
jumping the starter will bypass everything but the starter.
just jump the starter solenoid. it's easy to do.
a bypass jump will tell you whether the starter is operable. whereas a push start will tell you absolutely nothing.

Start by making sure car is not in gear, VERY IMPORTANT.
Unplug the "starter" lead from the starter motor, [thinner of the two leads at the starter motor], then using a jumper lead, [same gauge or thicker then the lead you unplugged] connect one end of jumper lead to the batt. pos.(+) terminal or the batt. cable terminal on the starter motor, touch the other end of jumper to the terminal on starter motor you unplugged the starter lead from.
Remember to make sure car is not in gear, engine WILL crank even if car is in gear, key is not in the ignition or clutch is not stepped on. 94

okay well heres one problem i see with that...my battery was relocated to my trunk before i bought the car so...im not sure i have a "jumper lead" long enough for that..unless i use jumper cables...can i use jumper cables as a jumper lead? thats the only gauge wire that ihave that is long enough to fit the car..
