Default Another P2W clearance Q. Am I the only one running the mfg's specs?

What is the real story?

Why does HT love to go bigger than the recommended P2W clearance? Is this a classic case of HT hype?

I had my block honed per the spec sheet and then stumbled upon some P2W threads. Most of these threads don't even discuss alloy of the pistons of whether or not the block is sleeved (IMO, two significant factors).

My Setup
Engine: H22A
Pistons: CP 87.00mm
Sleeves: GE (Great work guys)
Goal: 450-550whp
P2W Clearance: .0030 (as per spec sheet, Emailed CP with all my info to confirm)

It's easy to regurgitate what you read on HT, but what do people with actual experience have to say about this topic? I have no problem taking a hit for another half to 1 thou. I just don't want to waste my money over "something I read on the internet".

Thanks.

i always got my info from earl but i don't see why stock is an issue. If it says so on the cp spec sheet, its bound to be correct (assumption)

I set the PTW according to JE's paper work that they sent with the pistons. This was also verified on their website. 0.0030-0.0035 plus 0.001-0.0030 for turbo, supercharged, nitrous, and endurance vehicles. So I set mine at .004 to .0045 (I think mine are actually .0043 but cant mem 100%)

Anyone else?

CP says nothing on their spec sheet about the application/use of their pistons.

Are you sure that there isnt a note anywhere saying that there recommended piston to wall clearences are just a "guide line" to go off ? I would imagine that the application the car is been used would effect the final piston to wall clearence.

You answered your own question, OP. My CPs were installed at .003 as per the sheets. CP has a specific speed & bit for their honing process. All that info is on the spec sheet included with your slugs.

same here, currently making 475hp.

i think the part that can be often missed is the .0030 to .0035 + .001 to .003 for turbo/supercharger etc.

i ran many of my motors at .0035. pistons came out and they did have some wear on the skirts. i went to .0045 to reduce that hopefully. i havent noticed a difference in compression or leakdown results from going up the .001. in fact, this current motor has the highest compression of any of my turbo motors throughout the years (225psi, running around 9.8 static)

For me it depends on the power the motor will see, and what type of racing/driving for setting the PTW
