Default My Civic CX Hatchback Ground-Up Restoration Project

Posted them up, on another Honda Site. Figured I would share my Restoration project, with Honda-Tech as well.

I've been getting the itch for another project car, and nothing better then a classic 92-95 Civic Hatchback (imo). With this build, I would like to make a factory fresh Civic Hatchback, with mostly OEM parts and some extra comfort amenities/performance upgrades (power steering, a/c etc.). Basically, my ultimate version of how I would of liked to see the 92-95 Civic Hatch, come from Honda.

A nice street/cruiser car, and occasional weekend track toy.

So I went to town, and hunted down a nice California Rust-Free Original Owner 1993 Civic CX Hatchback. The car was in Palm Springs, all of its life, so the original paint was like red powdered dust. Aside from that, Clean Car Fax/Title, All original good foundation and exactly what I was looking for. The Original Owner was very sentimental about the car, and made me promise her I would take care of it. I told her I would bring it by, once the restoration was complete.

Started tearing the car down, immediately.

Found over 3 bucks in change, in the interior.

Spent a couple of hours, carefully removing each clip for the interior harness. Made sure not break any of them.

Poor 67 HP 12 Valve Single Cam.

Spent some more hours, carefully removing each harness clip, making sure not to break them.

Harness Removed.

CV Boot grease, and Battery splatter. Yuck.

Adios!

Went back over to the interior floorboards, and gave them some attention.

Next, it was time for a nice degreaser bath.

Started the Engine Bay Prep.

Grinded, and blasted the Surface rust, from the previous Battery Spill. Then layed down some Rust Preventer from Dupont.

Followed by some Epoxy Dupont Filler Primer.

Next, Sanded most of the original Milano Red off. Then sprayed some Dupont Adhesion Promoter.

Removed any small rocks, in any of the crevices.

Gone.

1st coat of Dupont Epoxy Primer.

Wow... I'm anxious to see this clean-up. I like subtle OEM-based builds.

Thanks, everyone. Here are some progress pics.

Found a wrecked GSR Integra at the junkyard, and got some goodies from it.

Integra Subframe, with Powersteering rack.
Tilt Steering Column
Re-Enforced Clutch Pedal
24MM Front Sway Bar.

Layed down a final coat of Dupont Expoxy Filler Primer.

Removed the Old Rack, Sub-Frame, brakes etc. to mock-up the integra stuff and 5 Lug.

Pulled the Rear Drum Brakes out.

Here is the old Manual Rack, and Stock Brakes.

Integra Sub-Frame, LCA's, and Rack installed. I will be pulling it out, to install new bushings, sandblast and powdercoat etc, once I am done with all of the bodywork and paint.

Stock Drums VS. ITR Rear Brakes.

Stock Column, and the New Tilt Column I picked up. Since the Civic CX's do not come with a tilt column, from the factory.

Had my worker attack the removal of the windows, then carefully removed all of the original window sealer.

All cleaned up.

Also, degreased and pressure washed the undercarriage.

Also, went over the floorboards, for any caulking "slop" made by the factory and removed it.

Before.

After

Picked up a minty set of rare 15" Spoon 5 Lug Spoon SW388's. Also some ADVAN A048's (For the track).

Same day, my OG Vision EG6 Mirrors, arrived in the mail. :bang: I pulled them apart, and prepped them for paint.

Received my load of Brand New OEM Honda Parts, for the build.

My original hood had a few dings, since they're so thin to begin with. I went ahead and purchased a fresh OEM hood.

New OEM Bumper.

All New Interior, Suspension, and Engine Bolts, Nuts, Clips, Bushings,Brackets, Moldings, Fender Liners Etc. Pretty much, everything still available from Honda.

100% Brand New OEM Interior. 93 Civic, with New Interior smell FTW.

Dash

Rear Panels are dis-continued. Luckily, we were able to source some back stocked pieces in the Iowa Honda Warehouse.

Same with the Door Panels, Dis-Continued.

Went with Civic EX Black Carpet, since it is more plush/thicker (then the stock Hatchback carpet) and has the cutout for the dead peal.

More Panels

Garnish for the dash.

OEM Armrest and Audio Console.

Mugen Pedal Set, from Honda.

Thanks, for the compliments

Went ahead and mocked up the new hood, and bumper. Just wanted to make sure the fitment was 100%.

Carefully masked the grille sections, on the front bumper. Used 3M's Painters Tape, and an exact-o knife.
