We have a 1989 Accord LXI that is hard to start after sitting for 45 min. to 2hrs. It has spark and will finally start after much cranking, it acts like it is flooded runs rough and black smoke for a minute or so. Could gas be leaking into the injector system after the engine is shut off? It has been in for service and they can't find the problem.

have them check the TW sensor [cooling temp sensor]

 

i had the same problem with my 97 accord, after installing my engine it started doing that. i hooked up a scan tool and it said i had a bad coolant temp sensor, come to find out when i went to go replace it, it was broke in half due from the tranni hitting it when i was putting it back together. after i installed temp sensor my car started like a charm
