Was just pulling the head off my spare b18b to put my other b16 head on and two stock head bolts turned into head circles... socket was flush, etc... pulled straight, loud pop then spin... looks like the previous owner over torqued the bolts...
I have a craftsman removal set but there isnt enough room to fit it over the bolt.
i need to get this done this week and i haven't a clue where to go now

Remove the rest of the head bolts and pull the head off. Hopefully the heads broke off giving you some of the stud to get at with large vise grips. If that doesnt work then you'll have to take it to a machine shop. That sucks man.
Btw, yea that sucks man. i would say machine shope because there is to little room to use that tool. or maybe drill it out?
damn that blows this is one of my fears, I would say weld another bolt to that bolt but I doubt you will be able to stick a mig in there to do it... looks like you will prob be taking a trip to the machine shop.

I found ^this thing at sears called grip tite. Size of a normal socket bit has hardened steel teeth that engage only the flat side. Hopefully it works because there's 0 room.
If that fails I'll drop that cylinder to bdc and do the good ol socket and hammer trick to drop the valve closest to the bolt. That might give me enough room.
Head has bent valves and I only want the block.

Cant Easy out a bolt that big with that much torque on it. Not to mention we've broken easy outs on studs and I really dont feel like trying to drill a hole through a Honda headbolt.

I have those already, not enough room to fit
tried the 12 point already... rounded off a craftsman socket.
bought the grip tite deal and shattered the socket.
whoever the **** had this motor last tightened the **** out of the stock head bolts

Sounds like a case of shitty sockets not fitting the bolt head tight enough. Head bolts are already 12 point aren't they? Why would you use a 6 point on it?

not shitty sockets, i have a full craftsman professional toolbox.
went to sears and bought another set of the extractors like posted above (that i already had) with a 1/2 extension in the end.... bolts are so over torqued that it literally ate the bolts....
im really out of patience with this ****... two bolts are stopping me from getting my car running..

heh, well last night i destroyed two titanium coated drill bits trying to get the head off of just one bolt... even with cutting oil the drill bit turned bright orange!!!
No idea what stock honda head bolts are made out of but once you get about 4mm into the bolt it turns to tool steel.
im at a loss... other than taking a plasma cutter to the side of the head where the bolt passes through and just severing the whole thing...

Not really sure what to tell you at this point, the only thing left is plasma like you mentioned or a really big bandsaw and just cut through the whole head above the deck lol Maybe plasma out around the bolt and then if there is enough bolt left weld a socket to it or just burn the top off.

yea i mean, im out of ideas at this point...
the shop is 50 miles one way though, thats where all the heavy equipment is at.
A buddy has a plasma closer, we could just try to plasma enough of the bolt off to make it the same diameter as the shank of the bolt.
only problem is the motor is out of the van and with my back lifting the damn thing puts me back on bedrest all day.. fml

we have a huge water cooled horizontal bandsaw we use at the machine shop for cutting billets but i dont think it can handle something this big
i had to drill out the head off one head bolt on a Toyota 2.4L which i rounded off by accident. it's not the same head bolt by any means as its an inverted 12point torx type bolt but the bolt material is probably close to the same.
my good friend was the drill doctor.....yes that is right.....the stupid tool you see on infomercials on tv....the problem is the bolts are very hard steel and it dulls the bit pretty fast. you need to sharpen the bit and run it on LOW speed with lube (oil) and it will cut thru. and make sure you are dead center before you start. and of course start off with a slightly smaller bit size and work your way up to the correct size.
it took me about 5-10min to drill the head off....once it finally cut thru is sounded like a gun shot when the head popped off from the amount of stretch on the bolt.
its a long process but at this point you have no other choice....
good luck.
