I know, but the bell housing bolt pattern is the same from '88 - '00.

What other opinions are needed? My opinion is that 4spd sucks and is a waste of time you might as well get a 5spd tranny.
What he was saying above is that sohc transmissions have the same bolt pattern from 1988-2000.

The real question is what are you planning on doing with the D16Y8? are you putting it into your 4spd STD civic? If so you have to swap the post mount on the engine, clutch and flywheel from your exact year tranny, and a bunch of wiring to convert from DPFI-MPFI plus VTEC...

If you are running the transmission in an EF, then no. If you are trying to run the 4spd in a 92-2000, then yes.

In case it matters, I will also confirm that 88-2000 d series transmissions will bolt up to nearly all d series engines in that range. The only trickiness is the flywheel contact surface area on the 88-89 which is easily remedied, and the input shaft spline count which is only a problem on the 88 transmissions.

If your 4 speed is from an 89-2000, then it will bolt up to the y8 with no problem. if the trans is an 88, then you probably have some parts to buy to make it all work.

The STD stands for Standard or Base Model Civic which is the 4 speed version. The 4spd will work if you are putting it into an 88-91 civic. If you are trying to put a 4 speed into a 92-00 civic then it will not work. Once more you need to provide enough info so that we can help you. If the car you are planning on working on is a 92+ then you are in the wrong thread regardless of the parts that you are working with.

Why simply why, you don't have a car and if for what ever reason you have a 4spd tranny get rid of it. Good scrap metal or paper weight
