Engine Decisions for my 82 Civic
When I get enough money I'm going to do some major work on my Civic. One of the things I want to do is work on the engine. So I can think of 3 choices I can do, but dont know which to do. So heres the choices im thinking of doing.
1. Rebuild or replace current engine which is the 1300 with a 4 speed tranny. And put on a weber carb or something like that. And maybe swap the tranny for the 5 speed one.
2. Put in the 1500 engine with the 5 speed.
3. Or put in an EK1 engine in it cause im pretty sure those engine will be a direct bolt in with my current factory engine mounts.
So what do you guys think? Which would be the best route for me to go? Oh an by the way dont tell me to to do any crazy swaps like a b or d series engine in my car cause I know the car will be crazy fast then. But I refuse to hack up an butcher my car. I love my car to much to do something stupid like that lol. No offense to any of you who have done that to your car. Its just not for me.
Thanks any help will be appreciated

Same situation we are in. The 83 we have needs an overhaul and we are facing the same decisions.
Trying to find a 1500 or EK1 in good condition will probably be a challenge. The HP increase does not seem to be worth all the effort anyway. Any of the EK1's I have seen in the junkyards have a ton of miles on them and would need to be rebuilt. all this for an additional 10-15 HP over the 1300 engine.
To me it seems like rebuilding the 1300 and going for the Weber conversion may be the best option.
I have also toyed with the B16 swap, but that looks like a nightmare for a shade tree mechanic such as myself.

Ya im mainly leaning towards just pulling the engine from my car an rebuild it completely an putting on a weber carb setup. Cause im not trying to make this car for racing at all. i just want to give it some more power lol. an ive looked in to the whole B16 an 18 swaps for theses cars. an they are possible, its just you will have to weld in different engine mounts, wire in all the electrical an a whole ton more. but for me i refuse to do any "hacking" up my car. cause its a classic car, these cars are getting harder to find as time goes on. i mean come on respect the classics. but i guess thats just me lol

...except i wanna what are the crazy options lol
B18? K20/K24?

If you're going to go to all the trouble to rebuilt the engine why not rebuilt an EK1? I don't see many downsides to that (Compared to rebuilding your 1.3). You'll get better performance if you can find a Canadian non-CVCC head to install on the EK1.
You could also consider installing a 2nd gen Prelude motor and transmission. I seem to remember this is almost bolt-in.
