Default GSR Transmission problem

I was wondering if 3rd gear is a gear that normally gets messed up.

when I'm cruising at 60mph, i was even at 50mph, I tried to just put it in 3rd to downshift and I hit a "wall" and it was a smooth grinding sound. and it will never go in 3rd.

also when I'm at a stop, ill go 1-2. 2-3rd and when i shift into 3rd it will have a grind sound but it will pop in okay.

These problems are not always happening though, when I first start driving it seems fine but after a bit of driving or hitting it, it seems like it starts to happen

What could be the reason?

Yes, usually 2nd and 3rd gears are the ones get messed up.

Sounds like a bad synchro, and sleeve at a minimum, engagement teeth on the gear are probably messed up too, and the hub may also be scratched up.

Hm how much would it be to get it repaired?

So, in the meet time of waiting for some money to come in for a new trans or rebuid... heres some info

If i upshift to 3rd from 2nd before 3k RPM it wont have the slight grind into 3rd, but it i take it higher and a little more aggressive, it will have the fast grind sound, also on hwy speeds I cant put it into 3rd from 5th, unless i rev it a little, then it will pop in after a slight grind

I filled her up with Pennzoil Synchromesh and there really isnt any difference. Does anyone think if I tried to use GM FM Synchromesh, it would have any difference than the Pennzoil?

I heard they both are the same but everyone has mixed feelings.

Fluid isn't going to fix mechanical damage.

Why would you be down shifting from 5th to 3rd?
Most likely it needs synchros.

Synchros at the minimum. Sleeve, synchros, synchro springs, center hub and gear possibly depending on internal damage extent. As EG8 said...fluid will not fix mechanical damage.
