Default I/H/E combo for b16a2?

Ive been pondering the thought of buying an ek hatch shell and swapping my b16a2 in it, so keep in mind this may be an application to a hatch. Ive been eyeing the dc sports 4-2-1 ceramic header and an apexi ws2 catback, but i'm indecisive on what to do about a cat or resonator... I'm wanting a quiet setup, but also wouldnt want to restrict exhaust flow?

Will you be running a cat?

I thought the WS2 came with a resonator?

I know a few people that run those cats. They don't have anything bad to say, however the true test will be time. And none of the have had them for more then a year.

Is the engine going to be saying mostly stock? If it is I really wouldn't bother upgrading the cat.

ok a friend has the ws2 on his coupe with a d16, honestly for a dd/ weekend fun car, this exhaust is perfect. definately stand behind this as for the cat, hes got an oem stock cat from honda fine for dd....as for header, depends on how much you want to spend i had dc ceramic on my b16a eh they were good for the money. and intake depending on your location go with a short ram, cai in wetter areas is risky i live in nh and in my integra i always had to go a longer route due to flooding in my area

If you are pondering, think about a B20Z.....it stock will still out perform a B16A with I/H/E, and probably be cheaper too

b16's are gutless, adding bolt ons isn't going to be worth the money. A good valvetrain might cost you about the same.

any 3" intake with a velocity stack
RMF replica header, bisimoto, etc
And a 2.5"+ catback. WS2 makes an 80mm universal you could get a custom exhaust mated to.

The same money could be spent on a b20 or a b18c5 and you'd be a lot happier.

^^that and keep your highflow cat idea. idk about flow master but my vibrant one works great once it warms up.

also kinda thinking you should go b18/20. no c5 since that'll be a grand more just for a name. i've been contemplating it for a long time now, and i'm already at I/h/e b16a.

I have an LS in my EJ1 and I'd take it any day over a gutless B16A even though I don't have VTEC. I really liked my old buddies B20 he had in his 5th gen Hatch. That was fun.

I have noticed that the b16 is lacking alot, torque wise. Even when I hit vtec, i still don't notice a gain and have a modified aem cai. As for the valve train, I was thinking of going with itr cams, pnp, and triple angle valve job. Im not wanting 300hp or anything, just want a quick, fun car to drive. I just want to open it up and allow as much air as possible without boost. This car will most likely be a dd, so Im not wanting to modify it extremely and have to tune it because there are no decent tuners in the area. Maybe just a mild tune with a apexi piggy back,,

If you know the b16a is gutless, sell it to some clueless person and buy a bigger engine.

You'll get better gas mileage with a bigger engine too because you won't be revving to 9,000RPM to pass Tina in her Yukon.

Apexi piggy back? WTF for? The $2,000 you'd invest in a good valvetrain and a tune you could just get an ITR motor or build a solid b20vtec.

Hell, for $2,000 you could get a QSD kit for $750, an h22 block for $400-1000 and put it in. That's a real n/a setup.

You're just wasting your time with an "all motor b16." Any stock bottom end n/a b16 doesn't stand a chance against a stock everything h2b.

Well, instead of selling the motor for a swap, I have also been thinking of selling the em1 for an ek hatch shell, stripping it, spraying it, and basically using the extra money to have a nice minty shell. Then saving up and building up the motor to slap in it. The only concern i have with the b20's is the sleeves are known to crack, but i dont plan on boosting it, so. Is there a good writeup of interchangeable parts? And what head are you referrring to using?

I have a B16a2 In my ek hatch with stock headers, a crappy 2.25 no name made exhasut with a magnaflow muffler and a whale *****, and i beat my roomates da with a b20 swap by a full car everytime. The b16 might not be a torque monster, but i wouldnt call it gutless. Ive beat b20V, Kept up with a Gt mustang with bolt ons and a the list goes on with my "gutless" b16....Your not gonna get much out of I/H/E combo, except a change in sound and 3-5 extra ponnies if that on ur top end. i love the way my whale ***** sounds, it makes the b16 sound alot more ballsy. But if u want real power ur gonna have to do some head work and get soem cams and a tune...or u can just boost and make some good power for ur money.

I'd call it gutless.

I don't usually take reports of street racing victories at face value. Too many variables. Especially the skill of the driver. Provide hard data-like a dyno chart.

Every driver is different every engine runs differently. The guy with the b20 sounds like he had a long geared transmission too. The only saving grace for the b16 is the short gearing. put a gsr trans on a b16 you won't think it's so quick.

Ok guys, so what about a b18c1 with a b16 tranny? It's no b18cr but it's the same platform?

ya i totally agree about driver skill, and the b20 is a good engine id do a b20 vtec if i had extra money, but im just sayin people give no credit to the b16 and its a pretty good motor for a 1.6L, and both b20's i raced both had b16 trannys

Yes the b16 is a great motor, but it's gutless.

The b18c1 and b18c5 quite a few differences.

A c1 and a b16 tranny wouldn't be terrible, but get used to high RPM's on the highway.

the b20z has higher compression with a b16 head and gsr tranny would be fun to drive. thiers a diff between b20z with a vtec head and an older b20 with a vtec head the compression is way diff.. you can build a b20 to have as much power as a k20a2....built though. thiers no way to make up for displacement biggers always better.

Password intake / DC header / Apex'i N1 exhaust. Don't ask ever again.
