I just got a B18C shortblock with 74k on it. I've never done any internal engine work and am not sure if this is bad.

I noticed this residue on 2 of the cylinders. You can feel it with a fingernail:


There are also some scratches on the deck, like a screwdriver was used to pull off the old headgasket:


Problems or no?

The shortblock is all assembled, so I'd hate to have to have a machine shop disassemble everything to rehone and deck it. But I really don't want to use it as-is and have to tear it apart again later, either. thanks!
