car is a 1990 crx si,
i'm lucky my sunroof still works, even with 234,000 miles on the car.
somtimes one rear corner does'nt go all the way down, but only due to maaco messing it up when i got painted a while back, but it eventually goes down flat if you try enough.
in the 13 years i have had this car i can't think of anytime where i paid any attention to maintaining the sunroof, so i think its about time i do so, so i can at least try to keep it working as long as i can.
i just had some questions about maintaining sunroof.
-----------------------
1) what type of lubricant are you supposed to use for the sunroof rails ??, i heard a silicone spray lubricant works good ?, is that ok you think ? but i thought it said to use white lithium grease in helms or something? do you know what kind is best and proper kind to use?
2) also, are you supposed to ever just clean out the old gunk totally from the sunroof rails somehow? and put fresh new lube in the rails? or not?
3) are there any other parts in sunroof mechanism that i should lube (while i'm at it)? like the little things that lift/tilt back edge ? or anything else requiring lubrication ?
4) are there any parts of the sunroof mechanism that need tightening or some type of adjustment of any kind ??
5) i was also told from someone on some other post, to use compressed air and clean out the drain tube holes, which are in each corner of the sunroof mote on top, he said in each corner of sunroof mote there is a hole like the size of a tip of a crayon? (thats how he described it), and i just could'nt see what he was talking about? where are they located exactly ? and are they real small?
and it said to un-attach the sunroof drain tubes which end in hatch area, to pull them up and take end nipple off and clean all the gunk out of it cause i heard if you don't it can clog and then flood your hatch with water leak.
any info or confirmations about proper way to cover sunroof maintanance would be appreciated, thnkx

i have been using a few drops of mobil 1 on the rails. i just looked through the honda manual and the only thing it mentions is moly grease on the cables.

grease anything that moves...
take off ur headliner and follow the tubes to where they connect to the sunroof pan. either remove them and clean them, or just spray them. if you smoke cigs and sometimes drop them on that sunroof tray, the tubes might be clogged... gross.
take off the rear tail light interior panels to find the drain tubes. clean em out. don't forget to put them back in place or your spare wheel well will be a pond.

which would you think is better to use on the sunroof rails? silicone spray lube? or white lithium grease? in your opinions?

you want something that won't break down. if you're taking your sunroof apart anyways, might as well regrease everything... use the lithium. even motor oil would work better than silicone spray, imo. good luck!
