Default AC System Pressure too high? AC Gurus Please Chime in

When charging my ac system yesterday, the pressure skyrocketed and blew out my pressure switch and the freon that had been used so far.

The line needs to be re-threaded for a larger switch we know that for sure, the smaller one wasn't sealing right and was also causing a slight leak when the system was being vacuumed.

-Would the pressure switch not sealing right or working cause the pressure to jump to 400+ when the compressor kicks on?

-What else could cause the pressure to jump?

-The guy also said it could be a bad condenser or a kink in one of the lines that built up pressure. He wants to take apart the system and test everything out (lines, condenser, wiring, etc) make sure it all works and no kinks.

-The system was not previously charged and had not been charged.

Does what the ac guy suggest sound about right? Any additional ideas of what it is or could be is greatly appreciated. Thanks
