ATS final drive question
I have the ATS final and today I was told that my milage was off due to the final. BDiddy (dave)said its prolly off like .01 miles per 1 miles therefore making my car have more miles due to the more rotation. Is this true?? Can anyone confirm this?
How would the milage counter be affected by a different FD?
The milage counter (and speedometer for that matter) is hook up so that every rotation of the drive shafts is counted and translated into a distance (or speed).
The fact that the wheel turns slower vs a certain engine rpm doesn't change anything.

The final Should have no affect on milage BUT I just really wanna be sure, do anyone else have some feedback?

CORRECT! the speedo gear is on the differential, a mechanical link to the driveshafts. changing the final has an effect on engine rpm at a given speed, NOT mileage. if you have a lower profile tire, say 205/50, that will increase your mileage a tad bit, but barely noticable, only 1.5% (come one guys, simple math here) so, assuming you have ridden on 205/50's for 30,000 miles, that would equal 30,450 miles. really not that much. if you want the miles back, get some bling bling 19" chromies, and go another 30k.............

here's a pic hijacked from another thread (sorry spoonek4)
see where the speedo gear is? changing the final gear (bottom bolts in the pic) will not affect the relationship between the speedo gear an axles.
