Default cv shaft seal leak

Hi guys, just replaced the passenger side cv shaft, and now i have an oil (tranny fluid) leak which looks to be coming from the cv shaft seal. I was pretty careful pulling the old one out so as not to wreck the seal - just wondering if this seal should be replaced at the same time, or if this sounds abnormal, like the shaft wasn't installed right? It is a new (remanufactured) shaft, with a new spring clip, which I heard pop in the groove when installing, so I thought it was installed right.

There's also a slight noise coming from that area while driving, almost sounds like a bad wheel bearing. Could these two issues be related?

Hate to take it all apart again, but does this basically mean replacing the seal?

Thanks for the advice.

I've always replaced the seals when I do CVs.

Yeah, wish I would've taken that extra little step. Well, I don't do cv's that often, so call it good practice to pull it apart again and replace the seal.

Anything tricky about replacing that seal? And you are supposed to coat the shaft-side face of it in multi-purpose grease before reinstalling the shaft, right?

You don't have to but, it wouldn't hurt. Just be careful to put it in straight or it'll leak again. Use an adapter or large socket.
