Rear Caliper Help
Have a 99 Ex and Im going to change my rear caliper this wknd which is seized open. Is there trick with the E-brake cable or does it just hook on? Also when I pop the brake line off is the fluid going to just pour out or do I have enough time to pop it on the new caliper? I know not to let the tank run dry and to bleed it.
Trick, not really...just get it off/out and then reverse to install.
Fluid, well it will drip, drip ,drip and keep going. So the key here is to get the hose, don't forget the washers, back on in a reasonable amount of time....then personally I loosen the bleeder on the new caliper while finishing the install (fills the "chamber of the caliper"). Keep an eye on the res. Once done, bleed all FOUR wheels.

See how the piston in the caliper has like a + sign carved into it?
That + sign is so that a special tool and go in and latch onto the piston. The tool turns the piston clockwise while simultaneously pushing it in. That's the only way to compress the piston on rear disc brakes with integrated parking brake.
There's three ways people typically compress them. This is the tool I use:

This is a cheap *** tool you can buy from Napa for like five bucks.

Some people use these (I've used them at home):

If using channel locks, grab onto the sides of the piston and slowly turn. Make sure not to touch the dust boot. Slide the dustboot down before clamping on, that way you won't damage it. The other two tools are kinda self explanatory.
If installing a new caliper then the piston should already be all the way in....now for the "other" side.....use the info. Untill I got the proper tool, I have this big flat blade pry bar that I used to "screw" the piston back in...just me
Oh duh, I didn't read the question correctly
. I thought he was asking about compressing pistons, not attaching the brake cable to the caliper.
To answer the question, no, there is no trick, it just hooks on.
