Dome light wiring trouble
I want to add some accent lighting and have it work in conjunction with my dome light. (Simple, right?) I took out the dome light and found a green wire with a red stripe and a brown wire with a black stripe. Also, the dome light has an internal terminal grounding it threw the screw affixing it to the roof. Using my volt/ohm meter the brown black has a constant 12 volts but the green red has 5.6 volts until one of the doors open. Then it goes to zero. So, obviously the green red goes to the door switches but is the constant 5.6 volts when the door is closed normal?
Next question: I opened up the lower plastic panel on the “B” pillar expecting to find my brown black and green red wire duo. But all I found was a green red. Now I’m not sure I found the right green red. Does the dome light wiring route down the driver’s side “B” pillar? Anybody have a good source for schematics?

Her is a link so you can download the manual for your car. You have to create a log in, but it is free.

As far as the green red wire you found in the B-pillar, that is the door trigger wire. When you open the door, that wire touches ground. It *might trigger the dome lights too.
1. Check continuity between B-pillar wire and the green/red in the dome.
2. You say that the green/red in the dome goes to 0.00 voltage when the door opens. Have you tested to see if that wire "grounds out" as opposed to just a loss of voltage? if so, you have just found a negative trigger for whatever you want to run.
