Default Need help on the 1983 Honda Accord LX

Hi, this is my first car, it has 183,XXX miles on it. The previous owner got it oil changes every 2,000 miles. She was an older lady, and the only owner of the car. When recived the car, I did a basic tune up. Sparks, Wires, Cap, Roter, oil change, oil filter, and ect. Also, I think the car has been sitting for time to time when she owned it because the carberator slplutter when I let go of the gas. And when I first start it the RPM's dont drop until you give it some gas or drive it. I would like to know why it does both of those things and possibly fix them. Thank you if you can please help me, will post some pics of it later.

When cold the carb choke will put the throttle on the "Fast Idle" setting. This is why the RPM go up. If you "blip" the throttle the carb will comeoff the cam.

completely normal. No reason to fix it, it helps keep the car from dying when cold. It was also used to warm up the car faster so that the Catylitic converter would get hot enough to work effectively.

As for the spluttter (is that a word??) I am sure the carb needs to be rebuilt after so many years and miles. There is no telling how bad the orings in that carb are.

How long do you let it run on the high RPMs? After 5-10 minutes they should come down, when the engine warms up.

Good find, my friend, and welcome to the world of Honda ownership. You'll like it here. Can't wait to see the pics!
