grinding in third
I have a 90 Civic Dx awaiting a transplant. Recently when shifting to third from second at 6k It occasionally makes a grinding sound. It doesnt happen in any other gears. Any Ideas? Thanks.

welcome to the club.
This exact thing just started happening to my rex about 2 weeks ago. What is the solution? I am about to by a hi performance clutch and wanted to know if it would be cheaper to buy another used transmission or try to get this one serviced. Also, who can recommend a good clutch? I am putting in my 65 shot zex kit soon and I know the stock clutch wont hold for long, so I am preparing. The clutch will eventually need to withstand a 125 shot, once the motor is built(hopefully will come later). My setup is a d16z6 with a crx si transmission. And do I need to order a clutch for the si transmission, or the z6 engine, or do I need to peice it together. Sorry for all of the noob questions. Thanks

From what I have heard it is cheaper to find a good one(thats if you can find one from a honest person selling it.) You will probably want a ACT street/strip clutch, has good grip yet not to much. Doesnt act as a on off switch like 6pucks. But you might need something like that depending on how much you are building it. I believe you need to match the clutch with the tranny, but not 100% sure on that one.
mine started grinding in third after i changed to HMTF and then i later figured out i never adjusted my clutch, so it was all the way at the top. Fixed to a better, more likeable spot. and have not had the griding at High RPM shift anymore. Everying working out great, for now...
**** i fucked mine up myself. Because out of the blue it started happening, and i remembered that i just put in new tranny fluid 2 weeks before, but someone told me not to fill it when jacked up from the crossmember and that's how I did it. So i just filled it by jacking up the pass side, and filled it and now it's gone. But i think i messed it up becuz i kept shifting at 8k to see if i'm doing something different when i shift. So now i have to shift a lil slow at 8k and it'll go in smooth but if i do it too fast it'll grind.
So just to let everyone know- Fill the tranny by jacking up the pass side!!!! HTH
