I went to home depot today just to look around. I was wondering which kind of shatterproof glass should I use.
MC-10
Lexan
Crystal Lite.
What are the difference between them. The shatterproof glass that I will be using does it have to be a specific material or can it be any kind of shatterproof glass. ALl of them I could see right through them real clear.
I know it has to be bigger then 1/8in.
Any Ideas or any other shatterproof glass I can use from home depot.
I also went to the sheet metal part at home depot. I saw the aluminum to cover up the rear panels and rear floor when its cut. Does the aluminum have to be a specific size?
I was deciding between Carbon Fiber and ALuminum but aluminum would be cheaper. The aluminum sheet that I picked up at home depot was pretty strong.
Carbon Fiber sheet 3x7ft $350
ALuminum at home depot I didn't get the price.
Any other good ideas or materials I can use.

Pay the extra money and make sure its the scratch resitant stuff. It will save you time and money in the long run.
If you havent done so I recomend downloading the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Rule book. I printed one out that was 48 pages. 17 pages on another and more in the intor which didnt get printed.
One part is still printing but I will read directly from the NHRA rule book so you know for sure.

OEM glass may be replaced with Lexan or other shatterproof material,
minimum thickness 1/8-inch.
That is strait from NHRA Summit Sport Compact Series Rule book for Hot Rod Class. You can get a good scratch resistant Acrylic from most home centers. Just keep it at 1/8th inch or larger and you will be ok.
Hope that Helps

Basically what you want is poly carb material. It comes in different brand names like Lexan, etc. but poly carb is the key. You will pay much more for your material at Home Depot than you will from a plastics supply place such as PSI. Do some research in your area. Going rate is about $85 for a 4x8 sheet. Compare that with Home Depot price.
get speed glass, already formed for each individual car and scratch resistant. A lot more expensive than mc-10.

If you're gonna cut it yourself get the MR10. It's more than the regular stuff but after a year of racing it still looks good and you won't have to redo it. I speak from experience
Tony, is MR10 the scratch resistant polycarb or is that a brand name or? I am getting ready to redo all my windows and this time I want them to last a while.
I believe MR10 is the model and Lexan the brand. Yes, it is scratch resistant. I had our rear windows out last week when i was welding support on the cage for the wheelie bars and when I cleaned the windows inside and out real good they still look brand new!
Sounds great.
The paint shop ruined every window in our car so when we get it back, I get stuck with that task.

I already read the nhra rules and idrc along time ago. Just trying to figure out which materials I would be able to use. I will be using CF for the rear floor pan.

Here is a company that sells Lexan. AR2 in 1/8" thickness 4'x8' sheets sell for $78.40. The AR stands for abrasion resistant. The regular polycarb without the scratch resistance sells for $67.75 per sheet.
The MR that Tony1 previously mentioned is Mar Resistant.

Just call them toll free at 866-832-9315. Talk to Darcy as I did today. Price was $78.40 for a 4'x8' piece .125" thick (1/8"). You want the AR2.
You can also buy the non scratch resistant glass for $67.75.
Could not find the 4x8's on their webpage.
Edit..the size you want is .117. Probably don't have the scratch resistant in smaller sizes

I just got of the phone with them. THey are located in Cali and a 4x8sheet is $168 for the lexan ar2. Which seems right I suppuse a 4x4 is about $78-$82. I asked how much shipping would be to the east coast and he said a couple hundred since it has to go in a truck. I found a company in my area that sells it for $140.00 4x8 sheet. In the mD area.
WHAT? They told me $78.40 for a 4x8 x 1/8" abrasion resistant. Going to call them again..
Did you ask for Lexan (an expensive brand name) or poly carb?

I was like "One of my friends told me to give you call because he was saying that your company sells Lexan AR2 4x8 sheets scratch resistant." Person Responded "Yeah that is correct the AR2 Lexan abrasion resistant" I was like "It runs for around $78.00" Person responded "Let me check it says it runs for about $168.00 and shipping to the East coast is a couple hundred"
Thank You I will be calling you back next week.<=== LOL!

GUESS WHAT...I went in there today to buy my $78.40 lexan sheet and the guy says "I don't know where I got that number from, the price is $149." I said pass and left. I'd rather pay more elsewhere. Complete idiots in there...
I don't know that it will do you much good, but the place we get the stuff here is called Regal Plastics. I think they are priced about the same as your place though. The scratch resistant stuff is alot more than the other...
