Default Engine bay fuse box cover...

When you remove the engine bay fuse box cover, the car "loses" it's electrical system, what is the cause of this? Is the cover "pushing" down some sort of switch or something? Or perhaps, I got a faulty fuse box (but I swear it is normal)?

hmm...ok, I went and tightened all the fuses (none of which were loose). Now it doesn't do that anymore. Whatever, it's fixed (for now).
